Yeah, the old school Degrassi tended to do this alot. Well, I can only actually think of 3 couples at the moment, all of which had some implications in one episode - that were completely forgotten about by the next.
Spike/Wheels
Wait, wait, since when? 1.12, "Parents' Night"
...how? Spike went to Wheels for advice with the biggest problem in her entire life, she broke up with her boyfriend pretty much very soon, and Wheels kept giving her advice throughout the whole episode. The scene where she sat and watched the soon-to-be Zit Remedy play, mainly to watch Wheels, did strike like the seeds of romance. I'm not really making much sense here, am I?
Why'd the writers not follow it up? I'm not sure, but I think it would be because a new boyfriend would be one complication in the pregnancy arc too farplus Wheels was really in love with Snake by season 2
So, should we be glad they forgot about this? In my opinion, yes. From the way they act in this episode, they are kind of cute, plus Amanda and Neil have some good chemistry. But Wheels is my favourite character and I HATE Spike with a firey passion, so the thought of them together? *shakes head* But then again, maybe he could have made her less Spike-ish (ie. immature, self-centred, overly-defensive, me-against-the-world-attitude-having, etc), since she did not really develop that personality until season 2. But I also have this theory that they're actually cousins, which would not help anything.
Joey/Heather
Wait, wait, since when? 1.13 "Revolution"
...how? Numerous implications were made in that episode of Heather having a crush on Joey, she described him as "okay" very early in the episode (earlier in the episode she wondered what Steph saw in Wheels, who she would like later), felt really bad about Steph using him, and was the one of the twins who eventually told him the truth. Erica notices this, and puts it to her outright in one scene, at which Heather gets a little too defensive.
Why'd the writers not follow it up? They forgot.
So, should we be glad they forgot about this? I don't think so. I think it was definitely worth following up, they would have been pretty cute together, but would probably would have made many comical mishaps in their attempts to date - like Joey/Caitlin, but more light hearted. I wish they'd followed it up, or at least we could have seen what Joey thought of Heather.
Rick/Kathleen
Wait, wait, since when? 2.07 (I think) "Bottled Up"
...how? Pick a moment from that episode. Particularly; him lending her the jacket for the "Quest for the Best" thing, him letting her keep the jacket because it was cold, him walking her home, him being all protective of her with the "drunk mum" thing, him being the only one who could get her to open up about the drunk mum thing, the last scene of the episode.
Why'd the writers not follow this up? The earth opened and swallowed Rick whole between seasons 2 and 3.
Should we be glad they forgot about this? NO! God, they were so adorable! Why'd they let it go? Just... watch the scene where he walks her home. How can two people being so cute, so protective, so understanding after ONE SCENE after spending teh entire series hating each other, and it comes out as the most natural thing in the world... Rebecca and Craig played two people falling in love perfectly, why did Rick have to disappear? He was the person who made Kathleen more likable than she'd ever been, they could have been something amazing... Argh, so much wasted potential. A Kathleen/Rick/Caitlin love triangle would have been a nifty focus for season 3. Except the Joey/Caitlin thing started in season 3, so we might have ended up with a Kathleen/Rick/Caitlin/Joey love square... which would probably end happier.
Anyway, discuss. What do you think of these potential couples? Can you think of some potential couples I missed (I'm sure there are plenty). Also, I am procrastinating on NaNoWriMo.
